Elevate Your Chances with Coaching

The day we put in our very first real estate offer to purchase should have been a very exciting day. The possibility to landing a great rental property for a great deal should have been exhilarating. In reality, it was nothing close to that feeling. All I remember was losing a lot of sleep, being stressed out, hoping…pleading that the seller would not take our offer. This is after the fact that we knew our numbers and knew that we would be landing a great investment. But still we were stressed out and scared that it would in fact be accepted! It was at that moment that we realized that no matter how much technical knowledge you have and how much preparation you do, you will always have one thing missing. Someone to be there to guide you along, challenge you, and reassure your that you are on the right path…A Coach. The moment we got a coach is the moment our success kept piling up. It was the missing link.

Roles of the Coach

Experience and Relevance

A coach is there to hold your hand if you need it. He or she is someone who has the experience and who has accomplished something that you too want to accomplish. For example, if you wanted to speak in front of a large crowd, would you go to someone who read a lot about speaking and watches speakers on television but has never actually spoken in public before? Or someone who has emceed events, won speaking awards, done many keynote speeches and knows the tricks of the trade having done so many? Logically, you would seek the one with practical experience who is preparing for another presentation themselves as you ask them.

Risk Assessment

With a coach, you can bounce ideas back and forth. At the same time, the coach is able to assess from his or her personal experience if that idea is good, bad, or ugly. Coaches will have experiences to share so that you can understand why an idea will work or not. Numerous times, we have been approached by students asking us if the speech they have prepared is impactful, what questions should they ask to get the audience engaged, or if they should stand at a certain spot while at a certain part of their speech. We are always able to give sound advice for them to assess themselves. Whether they decide to act upon the advice is up to them but, at the very least, they now have something to consider.

Personally, from our business stand point, we do not do anything relating to our business unless we consult with our own coaches. Why run the risk of doing something wrong and suffer the consequences, when you have an expert who can answer questions? Questions like “What will happen if we do this?”, or “What if we try that?” Coaches are able to take your situation and assess it with multiple scenarios so that you can clearly identify the pros and cons of each decision and what to expect after you have made the decision. Imagine yourself driving a car along the side of a mountain. It curves and turns unexpectedly. Would you go slowly or fast? Would you be scared or confident? What if you had someone sitting beside you who drives that path every single day? Someone who is able to tell you when the next turn is, where it gets narrow and where it drops. Would you not be more confident driving that path? Would your chance of succeeding be greater? Is your risk managed?

Foresight

Being able to guide you and show you where you can go is an important trait of a coach. For example, imagine if you wanted to climb mountains but were too scared and unsure how to do so. You seek a mountain climbing coach who is able to train you and prepare you for your very first climb. The first mountain may be short but to you, it is a great feat. It takes time with your mindset, confidence, and training for your coach to show you that you too can climb that “short” mountain. One day, you conquered all doubts that you have and you have successfully reached the top of that first short mountain that your coach has set for you. Now that you are at the top, your coach says, “Now let’s prepare for that one and I’ll show you how.” And they point to the taller mountain across the river. You look up and up and think, “Wow. That is crazy.” But, in fact, that is exactly what you said about the first mountain that you just finished! After months of training, mind setting and hard work, you make it to the taller mountain. You stand there proud as ever and your coach says, “Now let’s attack that one, an even taller one.” You see, a coach is able to show you where else you can go, how far you can grow.

Working with our students/clients, we show them how to acquire their first rental property or prepare for their first speech, then their second and third all while showing them the other possibilities that they have to Make More and Work Less. To a coach, these are things they have already done, but to you it is something you may have never thought to do.

We are often asked, “Are people able to invest or do what they want to do without a coach?” The answer is “Yes” they can. However, it will take more time, research, risk, and hard work to do so. A coach is there to speed up the process and get you to where you want to be faster with more success and less risk and growing pains.

Continuous Growth

As we have mentioned before, a coach’s foresight is truly your greatest asset. He or she is able to help you to grow continuously to become more than you may have thought. It all comes down to what your goals are. If you plan on just buying your first home or doing one speech and don’t want to do any more afterwards, then great, you will need only a coach for that first time and you may not need to have continuous coaching. However, if you would like to build a business and accumulate more properties and speaking engagements and truly Make More and Work Less, then continuous coaching is something we highly recommend. Many look at coaching and see it as an expense. That is the mentality that is preventing them from reaching higher goals. For instance, if you wanted your child to become a great piano player who will become famous one day, would you hire an 18-year-old who just finished their teaching exams because he or she was inexpensive? Or would you hire a pianist who has been performing for 20 years? Which piano coach will get your child to success sooner? Which coach will save more time? If a coach is able to net you thousands of dollars by giving you a tip on how to structure your presentation to impact more customers, was their fee not worth it then? If the coach is able to help you negotiate a better deal on the property and saves you $20,000, is their fee not worth it?

Are you Coachable?

Your coaches are there to show you that it is possible. They are there to show you what IS possible. And they are there to back you up when you need it most. But as much as your coaches are providing you with great transformational information, you must apply it. You must be coachable. You must be someone who is willing to unlearn what you already know and take a leap of faith that what your coach is telling you, which may sound impossible at the time, is what you need to go to achieve your visions. Are you willing to play the game and do the reps? Much like a sports coach or a piano coach, it isn’t until you buy into the program, trust the guidance of your coach, and do the necessary practice or reps on a daily basis, that you will see improvements, results, and achievements that you wanted.

Throughout my journey, it was my coaches, Shawn Shewchuk, Jerry Confer, Reggie Batts, Mark Anthony Bates, and of course JT Foxx who challenged me, supported me, and assured me that I was going on the right path. Every step of the way I took on the challenges, listened to their guidance, and made the necessary changes. When challenged to write our first book, we were overwhelmed by the limiting beliefs in our heads. Who am I to write a book? Who would read my book? What if people don’t like it? It was our coach that told us, which I have now been telling all my clients that, “Over the last hundred years nothing new has been written…but your voice has not yet been heard…and there are people waiting to hear from you”. On top of that I added to it. That I may or may not be able to reach the people who want to hear your voice, so therefore if you have a message then very moment you are not writing, you are depriving your people from your message. It was those words that got us to publishing our first book, which spring boarded us to this book which is our 6th.

When I was challenged to speak on stage, I was worried that I wouldn’t give enough value to the 100+ attendees who were paying over $100 to be at this event. On top of that, it was a 2hour speaking slot. It was our coach that asked us, “How is a 2hour presentation different than putting together 10 to 12 of the 10min presentation speeches that you have been doing already for your speaking clubs?” And sure enough, it was that small adjustment to my perception that allowed me to get over that mental hump to do a 2hour presentation and many more afterwards.

Later on, during the Covid shut down of 2020, it was our coach that challenged us to start a podcast and do interviews with successful individuals to build more exposure and credibility. By this point, I have done the reps and trusted the strategy and guidance and started a Podcast. One in which I have interview multimillionaires and Olympic gold medalists.

Having a coach will definitely change your life, elevate your chances, and reduce the time for you to succeed. However, in order for you to succeed you will need to be coachable, willing to do the reps, and implement every day. Even when it sometimes sounds completely insane! That is when you will reach your ability to Make More and Work Less.

Until next time, today is the day to unlock your potential. I’ll see You later.
