New Opportunities Starts with Attitude

Do you remember the time when your parents pointed at you and said, “Now don’t give me attitude and do as you are told!” Of course, you do. First of all, attitude can be positive and negative, and when you hear someone complain about your attitude or when you say that someone has an attitude, it is likely to be a negative attitude. Now do you remember how you felt when your parents said that to you? Probably not very good, probably pretty frustrated, which probably added to your attitude causing it to be a little worse at that moment. More likely than not, whatever task you were suppose to do was probably done poorly or done disgruntledly. During that time when you were frustrated and had ‘attitude’ how likely was it that someone wanted to sit with you and spend time with you? How likely was it that you wanted to just sit in the corner and be left alone? Probably pretty high.

Now think back to other tasks that you have completed or achieved. How did you feel? How was your demeanor and posture? Did people want to be around you? Did you want to seek others out to share stories and experience? If you said yes, then that is because you had a good attitude. The key is to have a lot more good attitude moments than bad attitude. The better and more positive your attitude is, the more opportunities open up. You seek out value and where to add value, you connect with others and others want to connect with you. You see succeeding results and in turn perform at a higher quality. Having good attitude is a choice and a choice that will allow you the Make More and Work Less.

How is Attitude a Choice?

We have the power to choose how we perceive information and what we see. We can choose to see something as positive or as negative. We have all been asked whether a glass is half full or half empty. One is a positive choice and one is a negative choice. You can choose to see negative or positive outcomes in any scenario. If I was to tell you that the economy is so bad right now that nobody should do any investing or have any hope that things will get better. You would take what I said, go outside and start noticing how bad the economy is. You will see all the for-sale signs, empty buildings, and stores closing down. However, given the same scenario, I can also tell you that right now is the BEST time to go and start a business and invest! Why? Well the more for-sale signs mean there are more competition to negotiate a better deal, empty buildings mean startup office rental space is cheap, and businesses closing down means opportunity to help businesses get turned around.

If you were stuck in traffic you can choose to complain and say that you will be late and that your day is ruined. Or you can say, now is an opportunity for me to pop in some relaxation music or some business audiobook or make a few business calls to add value to clients, so that I can maximize my time here since there is nothing else, I can do about the traffic than wait. We must have a good attitude. You might be asking yourself; how do I get that? The key is in your thoughts. The more you think that you can become a positive thinker, the easier it will get. It is all in your attitude and how you think about opportunities presented to you.

WHAT DO YOU LET IN YOUR MIND?

How you allow your mind to absorb is what you will become. In an earlier segment we talked about the importance of mind feeding and what you feed your mind is what you become. The more positive images, content, and people you are around, the more positive your attitude will be. Like wise the same affect will be had is if it was negative information. So how to does one choose what information they let in their minds when sometimes they cannot control let?

What others say and do is beyond your control. A very powerful saying goes:

You cannot change the people around you, but you can change the people around you.”

If you ever feel where you are in an environment where the people around you are negative or giving a lot of attention to topics that have no value or are negative the fact is you cannot change what they do or what they say or how they think. What you can do is change the people around you. Start spending more time with those who are positive and empower you. Surround yourself with those who have that driving force to grow and succeed. What you can also do if you are in that environment is to not feed the topic more energy. Let the topic die down on it’s on accord and not add to it yourself. Then when the opportunity comes, change the subject. The statement above can also be applied to information.

When bombarded with information and content online and on a day to day basis, there is bound to have a lot of negativity around you. Especially when negativity is what gets people’s attention. You do have the choice to change what information you allow your energy to go to. You can scroll through and ignore that information, you can leave the room when that information is being discussed, you can choose to get negative information your time and energy.

The fact is that we all have the ability to change our attitude about any situation. We may require some help by others, or some practice within ourselves. As long as we keep reminding ourselves as to “Why” what we are doing is important and knowing that our attitude is everything, then we will start adjusting our attitude to suit the situation for us to succeed. By doing so, we could possibly see a hidden opportunity when most people would see an obstacle.

Attitude Changes Everything Around You

When you have a positive attitude, many situations turn out to be advantageous. A story comes to mind about a father and his two sons. One is always pessimistic and one is always optimistic. Thinking that he had to balance their characteristic, he decided to present both his sons a situation. He would tell both his sons that when they get to their room that they will have a surprise waiting for them. In the pessimistic son’s room, the father put a horse in there, thinking that his son would be so happy to have a pony that it would know the pessimistic nature out of his son. In the optimistic son’s room, he fill the room up with horse manure, thinking that there is no way anyone can feel good about having that mess in their room. After the father sent his sons to their room, he eagerly went to see how his plan panned out. He first went to his pessimistic son’s room. To his surprise his son was crying. The father asked his son what was wrong, in which is son replied: “With is horse around, now I need to clean it, feed it, and care for it! How can you do this to me!!” Shocked, the father proceeded to his optimistic son’s room, ready to deal with another disappointed son. To his surprise what he saw was unexplainable. The father saw his son running around in the manure, digging, tossing it up, diving into it, and laughing hysterically! Before the father was able to ask what was going on, the son ran up to him and said: “THANKS DAD!! With all this manure around there must be a horse here somewhere!!”

As you can see, we need to train our brains to precise something negative as a positive.

Liabilities are your Assets

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one who has an amazing positive attitude. So much so that he turns his liabilities into his assets. At the early stages of his career before he was a movie star he was told by producers, agents, and directors that there will never be a day where he will become a movie star. His Mr. Universe was too big and too awkward to be a lead actor. His name was too hard to say and write, and finally his accent was too heavy to ever take on a lead actor’s role. Hence, he was always presented 3rd, 4th, and 5th string roles, like the henchmen, body guard, soldier etc. Arnold persisted he worked harder than ever. He waited until he can land a lead role. He hired a speaking and acting coach. He trained harder and kept auditioning. Until the movie Conan the Barbarian came where he was perfect for the lead role. So perfect in fact that the director said that if Arnold did not exist then they would have needed to BUILD an Arnold to play that role. From then on Arnold never looked back, taking on bigger roles and making his name and body a brand. Everyone knows his name and everyone knows that famous accented line, “I’ll be back”, to the point where people want him because of his name, body and accent, his now set of assets.

Everything is Tied to your Attitude

With a positive attitude you attract positive connections. These connections bring positive new opportunities. The more opportunities you get the more positive results you achieve. The more achievements the more action you take, which leads to more confidence and an even stronger attitude. The cycle goes on and on. With that attitude you are bound to Make More and Work Less.

Until next time, today is the day to unlock your potential. I’ll see You later.
